Nope, not the band! I have been mulling over the idea of being a fire dispatcher for a few months now, and I’ve finally got the ball rolling!
The Fire Chief has agreed to meet with his coordinator to allow me to study and take the exam to become a certified First Responder. Basically, an Advanced First Aid provider, but way below EMT. The Holliston FD requires all dispatchers to be at least this, so… hello, exam! Chief also recommended I take a PowerPhone course in Emergency Medical Dispatching. He said it would look great on my resume to have taken it voluntarily versus him telling me I should take it while applying for dispatching. There’s one being offered an hour away from my house over Spring break. The course runs March 17th-19th and is eight hours a day. I asked about the Advanced Fire Service Dispatch course but he said not to worry as it’s coming nowhere near Massachusetts. Though if I wanted to be a Public Safety Dispatcher, I’d have to take that.
Needless to say, I’m pretty excited.
